The Smart Water Management Symposium will be held in Amsterdam, capital of The Netherlands. Amsterdam is a city surrounded by water. Built during the Golden Age, the so-called Amsterdam’s Canal Ring contains a network of intersecting waterways. Since 1999, the city’s distinctive canal landscape has officially been protected, and in 2010 the Amsterdam Canal Ring was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Would you like to learn more about Amsterdam’s extensive water network? Visit the Museum of the Canals (Het Grachtenhuis), which brings 400 years of history of the Amsterdam canals to life. Or experience the waterways yourself by going on a canal cruise. There are so many fun and interesting things to do in Amsterdam. Want to explore the possibilities? The Smart Water Management Symposium will be held during the Amsterdam International Water Week (AIWW). The AIWW will take place from the 30th of October to the 3rd of November 2017. It is the platform for new alliances and fresh ideas and offers a diverse range of events: the AIWW conference, the Aquatech Trade Exhibition, the Sarphati Sanitation Awards, Floodex and an extensive young water professionals programme.
The theme of this year’s AIWW is ‘Water…and 9 billion people’. By 2050, 9 billion people are expected to inhabit the planet. Water scarcity on the one hand, and flood-proof cities on the other, will become our main challenges. AIWW 2017 will look at these challenges and explore a new era of Sustainable Development Goals that represent a global process of resiliency, optimal resource efficiency and transition to circular economies.
